20 Must-See Places in AmsterdamGrachtengordel · Boutiques · Canal views

The Nine Streets links short shopping streets between Singel and Prinsengracht. Come for independent windows and canal views rather than department stores. It is enjoyable without shopping, and easy to extend towards Spui or Jordaan.

Nine Streets map: where to start
- De 9 Straatjes is a group of nine short streets between Singel and Prinsengracht. The map button locates the area; choose a starting point for your walk separately.
- Suggested short loop: follow Gasthuismolensteeg through Hartenstraat and Reestraat, then return via Berenstraat, Wolvenstraat and Oude Spiegelstraat. Keep cycle lanes clear when stopping for bridge photographs.
Shopping or a canal walk?
- You do not need a ticket for a walk. If visiting boutiques, check individual opening hours: open streets do not mean open shops.
- Allowing one to two hours with browsing and a coffee is a useful planning starting point. In rain, plan short walks and stops rather than expecting a fully indoor attraction.
What to do here
- Wander through Hartenstraat, Reestraat and Berenstraat; choose a relaxed coffee stop rather than following a queue.
Getting there
- Walk from Dam or Spui; exploring on foot may be more comfortable than cycling between shops.
Is this the same as the Jordaan?
- The Nine Streets is a shopping and walking area in the canal belt, not another name for the whole Jordaan. Combine them in one walk, but treat them as two separate stops on your map.
- Choose shops and cafés according to what is open that day. The street walk needs no admission budget; allow separately for coffee, food and shopping.
