Amsterdam sights: 20 places and a three-day plan
Balance museums, canals and neighbourhoods on a first Amsterdam visit. This three-day suggestion is a flexible outline, not a requirement to enter every attraction. Start with your timed visits, then fill the gaps with walks and breaks.
Jump to the 20 places ↓Day 1: Canals and Jordaan
Build a walking day around the canal belt, the Nine Streets and Jordaan. Keep doorways and cycle lanes clear when stopping for photographs. If you want to visit the Anne Frank House, do not assume same-day availability; check the official booking site and arrange your walk around it.
Day 2: One main museum and time outside
Choose one main Museumplein museum, such as the Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh Museum. You need not visit both in one day; a Vondelpark break can follow a longer visit. I amsterdam notes that some City Card activities require a time-slot booking; owning a pass alone does not guarantee entry.
Day 3: Pick an area that suits you
Consider the NEMO and Het Scheepvaartmuseum area for science and maritime history, or the north bank for contemporary architecture and waterfront views. Choose one rather than rushing through both. Budget separately for tickets, travel and food; do not buy a pass solely for an advertised discount on visits you will not use.
